Character of Life Discussion in P&P: Progress

Progress is a development of the consciousness. It is a constant movement towards self-perfection and truth, a process by which we move away from our present consciousness to a higher consciousness. We need the aspiration to rise higher, a conception of what we should move from, surrender to the higher, move away from the compulsions of our lower nature and reach the higher. The essence of progress is to move from ignorance to knowledge. Elizabeth and Darcy make progress in P&P by giving up their pride and prejudice and transforming themselves.
