DAILY MESSAGES

Series VII

201)  Getting rid of thoughts that man is best done by not responding to sense impressions, as the thoughts that originate in the body reach the mind through the sense. That is why in the stillness of the physical being Silence is able to sustain itself. Sri Aurobindo demands that Silence while one is fully active physically.

202)     He who has taken to yoga has absolutely nothing to do. He cannot act except through his ego. Even the efforts at yoga are only exercises of ego.  Surrender is not to be done by an effort of any description. All that he has to do is to kneel before the descending GRACE and gratefully allow it to act .  Such an ability is not a human capacity but is one of the awakened SOUL.

These are the truths of divided life.

Identification with the other in higher life intensifies loyalty, not by betrayal but by playing hide and seek. Separation caused by hiding creates an intense longing for reunion. Reunion is through a play of gamboling and intensity is delivered almost in a quarrel-like intimacy.

204)  The best way to deal with meanness, even when you want to give generously is to put him on LAW and stick to its terms, and any generosity should be de facto.

205)     Man is not as charitable to another as he is to himself; the yogi is not so indulgent to himself as he is to others. Both are different versions of the ego.

206)  As consecration needs a lot of energy, when we are tired we wait patiently for energy to revive. Until then we relax. It rarely occurs to us that we can consecrate the tiredness. Such a thought will release the energy to do it.

207)  Problems we meet with are mostly social. The developed individual who has outgrown society has psychological problems. The spiritual individual discovers that his spirit has no problems and he is free to seek liberation.  He who seeks the spirit in life also knows that his spirit has no problems for itself; he tries to solve the social and psychological problems of others spiritually so that the SPIRIT may be at rest.

208)  It is true that one need not do anything after he has surrendered, but to surrender he must actively offer all of his personality. True humility does invite Grace which wipes out all one’s ability, even as it had dispensed with karma.

Faith removes karma. Humility removes abilities. One brings in Grace, the other makes Grace into Supergrace.

209)  Our conscious knowing a future result acts as an obstacle and cancels it. Our subconscious knowing readily fulfils itself. When the mind is transformed, not only the conscious knowing will not be an obstacle, but it will act as a help.

210)  Enjoyment is to express energy. To express the energy so that it accomplishes is higher enjoyment. Infinite enjoyment is to express energy in such a way as to increase it.

211)  What is to be culturally enforced will not come off by itself in the absence of that culture. A loan given must be taken back. It will not come back by itself. It requires a social enforcement. In its absence, to  lament that such a behaviour is not forthcoming is only lack of awareness of social behaviour.

Pure selfishness will accept any amount shamelessly, but it will not strike it to do a good turn in return. Before selfishness develops shame, it will endlessly take, but will never think of returning.

212)     In the long and arduous effort of man to give up something, if it happens to be his central characteristic, it will be evident that ultimately he will be reinforcing what he professes to give up.

213)  The present is ever present, not merely a present moment.

214)  Mercenary meanness of the social elite is seen as cultured goodness by the entire society to which the newly rich are anxious to belong.

Status is primary, wealth is secondary and is only a mean to status. In Doctor Thorne, Mary is adored for her being the heiress by all those who shunned her earlier for low birth. No one sees the meanness of that adulation.

215)  He who can go a little inside can know that what we call an external circumstance is only what we called from inside.

216)     The visible material benefits for those who have never had them generate an intense hope that saturates their depths which to them is ultimate faith. Complete superstition of the lowest generates faith of the highest order.

217)  The Force that comes down is an impersonal universal force; our actions are the finite, precise, individual acts of a single person. For our acts to receive the Force, they must acquire that wide impersonality.

218)     The physical that takes or for that matter gives does not remember, as it has no faculty for that. The mind remembers what the physical takes and is loyal on behalf of the body.

219)     The underworld in the society is the kitchen where our excellent social dinners are cooked.

220)     The thoroughness with which SELFISHNESS reaches the potentials and distant possibilities is always devoid of any sense of shame.

Shamelessness is endowed with thoroughness. Shamelessness is incapable of self-restraint.

221)     The effort required for a certain enjoyment, whether it is real or illusory, is the same.

222)  One can see the love in betrayal when he is aware of the buried aspiration in himself calling the distant vibration of Love behind the apparent betrayal. He who knows betrayal is a faster friendship has the mental vision of God as knowledge. It crosses into the evolutionary splendour when he is aware of that in him which started the movement.

223)  When words are rightly employed they can deliver a telling blow. In the mouth of a speaker, words speak volumes. In the hands of a writer, the right word is a bullet. The poet conveys the message through words. The word of a devout person can reveal Mother.

224)     Liveliness is to relate to another or an event from the point of view of his life. What makes one live is his ability to look out of himself, his outlook.

225)  The human being’s light is material light. Its knowledge is that the earth goes around the sun. The true light is spiritual. The truth about the sun and earth is they do not move.

226)     Kmk›ø© Gߣx |õmøh BЮ E›ø©.

The right to rule the nature comes down to us as the right to vote.

227)     One musician opens up the interest of everyone in the audience and exchanges live interest through music. Human relationship, by its own thoughtfulness and resourcefulness opens thousands of interests in the other and holds a live interchange of energetic energy at its acme. Taking it to the physical level and consummating it there is the finest hour of creative friendship.

228)     To return meanness to generosity is the meanest in man.

229)  Spirituality, like every other thing, has no future, if it is not collective.

230)     Only when one fully knows the long distance travelled to enjoy the present peace and security will he be able to appreciate the potentials for the future.

231)     Whether it is social transformation or a change in the psychological life-style, when the NEW becomes fully established, it discovers that it is established only as a tip of the iceberg, while the old remains below the water intact.

232)  Consecration never fails. We fail to consecrate either out of unconsciousness or lack of concentration.

233)  The courtesan who schemes to take as much from the customer as possible at the first visit, acts not from her profession but from the total economic insecurity she is in. He who is able to appreciate her from her point of view loves her and she is sure to return it.

234)  Whatever the human longing is for, it is only to find fulfilment in Him.  All aspirations are aspirations for the Divine.

235)  When we are not lost in work and are able to observe ourselves, the separation of Being and Becoming starts.

236)     It is a great stride forward for the world to have shifted from the individual to the collective welfare which was enabled by every technical advance -- travel, press, news, education, population growth enabled by higher agricultural production, etc. etc. -- which prompted Sri Aurobindo to point out that the Gita has nothing to offer this new collective aspiration. Does the individual now think it possible to reverse the trend?

237)     Instructions are always one-sided. Discussions with the subordinates who receive instructions are not permissible, but, on occasions are charmingly resourceful. Instructions that are imaginatively resourceful to include the benefit of discussions are really creative instructions.

238)     When the touch of human meanness is exhausted by experience, it leads to divine generosity, especially for the devotees of The Mother.

239)     Great writers communicate their great experiences through words powerful. Greater writers communicate what they have felt in the depths to the reader without putting it in words.

240)  That the eternal greatness directly depends on the finite smallness is the lynch pin of yoga and the pivot for personal progress.

241)     The woman’s reaction to man’s unfaithfulness issues from vital insecurity while the man reacts to the woman’s behaviour from the physical sensitivity of outraged honour.

242)  ö\õÀ¾US AP¨£hõu ]¢uøÚ ©ÚzvØS›¯x, EnºÄUPÀ», ]¢uøÚUS AP¨£hõu AÔÄ ©ÚzøuU Ph¢ux. Ax ö©ÍÚ®, JÎ  ‰»® bõÚzøu öÁΰ¾®, EÒ÷Ͳ® |õk®.

Verbalised thought is vital. Understanding of any type belongs to mind. Only inner intuition of knowledge of the outer objects inside is supramental intuition.

243)     Grace as Money:  Well, if collective spiritual progress is the only future ideal, what then are their social and individual bases? World peace and PROSPERITY are surely on the agenda.  When money comes in through Grace, it sustains the spiritual quest while ensuring the peace in the social, physical world.

244)     Our deepest consecration is from the depth of the surface while the subliminal is out of its reach. Hence, the purest of prayers or consecrations of ours brings the possibility of subconscious desires to be fulfilled.245)  Sri Aurobindo and The Mother spoke of the intolerable ecstasy and unflinching rapture when the physical substance opens to Grace. Should anyone follow their path and arrive at the same point, can we say their achievement will act as a protection now and the further facts of the descended Supramental Force would have pushed the frontier further?

246)     Smile is the physical aspect of the soul’s vision of the marvel as confined to the object before.

247)  To think of oneself is ego. To consider the past is to be in Time. Memory binds us to mind. Time, mind and ego are of the finite surface.

          ußøÚ {øÚ¨£Áß AP¢øu°À ÁõÌ£Áß. Ph¢uøu {øÚ¨£Áß Põ»zvÀ EøÓ£Áß. {øÚÄÒÍÁß ©ÚzvØS›¯Áß.  Põ»•®, {øÚÄ®, uõÝ® ÷©À ©Úzvß ]Ô¯øÁ.

Memory keeps us on the surface. Ever-present memory of everything is of the subliminal. Self-forgetfulness is bliss. Self-aware oblivion is Delight. All-aware self-forgetfulness is higher Delight.

248)     Work and Results:

             1. Man works hard, no results issue.

             2. One man’s hard work gives all the results to his rival.

             3. Man works hard but results come elsewhere.

             4. Hard work directly brings adverse results, but wider results of similar nature issue elsewhere, often higher.

             5. Personal work brings impersonal results.

             6. Impersonal work brings personal results.

             7. Personal work results in impersonal advancement.

Man, in one of these stages, should move to what?

249)     When the physical is unable to swallow a vital--hostile--emotion or a mentally inimical idea, it destroys the other when strong or destroys itself if weak.

250)     Responsibility is the knowledge of physical sensitivity.
