Series IV

351)          Sarcasm on the part of the beneficiary is a sure indication of his intention NOT to receive.

352)          Sarcasm makes the recipient insular and distances himself from the plane of the higher force.

353)          In this sense gratitude is the very opposite in spirit to sarcasm.

354)          The devotee can have only the prayers answered.  It is for the disciplined good man of gratitude to consummate the opportunities.

355)          Justice for man is to have an agreeable result to disagreeable one and includes no result.

356)          God’s justice varies from agreeable result to disagreeable one and includes no result.

357)          God’s justice includes human justice as well as human injustice.  The slave of God sees God’s justice in human injustice and readily metes it out at the behest of God.

358)          To be able to deny justice to the other is one needed qualification to be an instrument of God and His justice.

359)          It never strikes him who declares that the solution defies his thought that it lies in not thinking – silence.

360)          To all those who come to Her, Mother gives the experience of Silence as well as every other spiritual endowment, for them to make it a permanent endowment.

361)          Rarely does anyone recognise the possibility.  When recognised, the common response is, “Why not give it permanently?”

362)          Her touch initiates; our surrender makes it ever-living.

363)          Man, when awake, seeks the results of his own surrender for Her touch!

364)          Compunction is of the conscience, not of consciousness.

365)          The golden lid reveals to a mind capable of intuition.

366)          It is not loyalty or character that women value in men, But charm.

367)          For man, it is enough that he is charmed for whatever reasons.

368)          Charm can never be found in both because its presence on one side makes the other side passive in reception.

369)          Charm can never be found in both because its presence on one side makes the other side passive in reception.

370)          Charm does not outlive marriage.  If it does, it goes to other persons.

371)          Charm lives forever when unfulfilled.

372)          The charm the world knows is of the vital.  There are rare occasions of it in other planes.

373)          The greatest power of charm arises from the most deceptive vital.  The more it deceives the more charming it grows.

374)          Does it not bear the character of lila? Only that self-giving here is for self-destruction.

375)          Maybe self-destruction is aimed at self-finding.

376)          The height of charm is in the case of the lover who is charmed when there is none.

377)          If God seeks self-discovery, man seeks self-destruction or self-delusion.

378)          Self-destruction and self-delusion are subjective experiences that make possible objectivity.

379)          The phenomenal world is of forms.  They meet to generate sensation which is a medium of vital man’s growth.  Romance is of this phase.

380)          Further growth is by consciousness and its organisation.  They don’t admit of romance.

381)          Consciousness admits of knowledge; organisation, power.

382)          Knowledge and power fuse in Truth – consciousness.

383)          Objective Truth can evolve into subjective Being.

384)          Growth of being lies in its unrolling its manifestation back into the Absolute.

385)          Sri Aurobindo describes the knowledge of consciousness becoming Being as one of supreme discovery.

386)          Is it given to man to ascend as well as descend, to station himself at various stages of evolution? Maybe he can acquire it, if he so chooses.

388)          The atomic energy that is unleashed by fission is the involved life energy compressed into the atom.

389)          Sensitivity can be overcome either by insensitivity or by becoming acutely aware of the sensitivity of the other person, a process of empathy.

390)          Sensitivity, of course, has no use outside a life of culture.  In evolution as well as spiritual life, it is an obstacle.

391)          Even when the man wants to be eaten by the tiger, there is sensitivity, one that resembles the tiger’s.

392)          What is tragedy in human nature or human life is not so in God’s kingdom.  Either it is an event or a great event of intense living.

393)          Spirit growing below the surface gives immeasurable peace or inexplicable ananda because he is unconscious on the surface Not knowing it is the greatest moment of his inner life, man expects that to come.

394)          The consciousness that find the world as a marvel will also be able to see every past tragedy in the new light as something necessary, perhaps a marvel of sorts.

395)          Such a consciousness may be more absorbed in the present and less interested in the past, though not incapable of going back to it in mind.

396)          The man who faints on the day of his wedding seeing the enormity of its true character will be described by the mind as one who faces a tragedy.

397)          Maybe it is super grace that has given him the end result in the beginning without his having to grope though the illusions of romantic ecstasy, flat neutrality, devastating reality of life and finally the taste of ignorance that enjoys the struggle and victory.

398)          He who desire for the marvel of the present must first be able to see the past tragedies as a marvel of that occasion, since it was as a Marvel that God enacted it.

399)          Intellectuality is a subjective realisation as it is a giving of an account to itself.

400)          Thought arrives at a generalisation valid universally, thus becoming an objective truth, the object being the Absolute which it was trying to reach all the time.
