(Questions for which answers are there in the writings but not at one specific point. The reader has to relate to more than one reference to ascertain the answer.)

 1.    What is reversal of consciousness?

IV  Complex

(Questions which do not strike the reader at all and when raised, the answer presupposes a knowledge of the process of life, rather acute original thinking).

1.    Psychic coming forward is essential for this yoga - why?

2.   Why Mother could not see Sri Aurobindo until '59.

3.    You need not pass through overmind to go to the Supermind. Can a person whose ego (mind) is not developed go to Super­mind without developing ego (or mind)?

4.    Physical mind transforming leads to Supramentalisation.

5.    That being in the cells, nothing is impossible.

6.    Direct action of matter on matter for healing.

7.    If one body does it, all bodies can do it.

8.    Endurance of the body comes when you come out of the rhythm of thought.

9.    Mother only catches illness, never passes them on.

10.   There is no difference between Mother's experience and that of the three people.

12.   (Cells are the most fixed part of our being). Mother says cells have the possibility to bear transformation. If so, where does it come from?

16.   Physical matter is ill-treated since the advent of Man. So it expects only ill treatment.[16]

23.   Supramental becomes permanent only when it manifests in the physical mind - why not in the physical substance, why mind?[23]

24.   Body feels a terrible force but cannot do a thing. [24]

25.   Physical nature belongs to habit - why? Could be handled only by illness - why? [25]

26.   The why of death is clear. The how of immortality...? [26]

Unasked and Unanswered

(Questions that arise only when the mental experience becomes a yogic experience and which can be answered only on the basis of spiritual experience).

1.   Transformation of matter must come from inside, it cannot be imposed from above.

2.   Why or how is the Supramental substance denser than matter? Is not density indicative of darkness?

3.   The mind of cells is repassing the process of human mental development to reach the key.

4.   First time Instrument is made to work.

      Supramental enriches the instrument.

5.   What is the difference between Total Surrender and formid­able will to want what the Divine wants?

6.   A new intermediary between Psychic and the Physical.

7.   Body is not all right when it asks why.

8.   Mother never asked Him questions.

9.   Long after I am buried, my cells will be conscious.

10.  Receive it as Ananda and give it as Love. They are the same.[27]

11.   Mind and vital are organised. Body is in cellular tension. It quickens only in trance. One can handle the mind and the vital but not the body. [28]

12.   Remove fear - we can bear a great deal of pain.[29]

       Body decides to bear - the acuteness of pain vanishes.

       Have inner calm - the pain turns into a pleasant, comfortable sensation.

       Cells have faith that everything is for the good - Ecstasy comes.

13.   Work will be done automatically for all those who surrender in faith. [30]

14.   How to get faith? By persisting to accomplish. [31]

15.   Unwillingness is matter's egoism. [32]

16.   Mechanicality of material inconscience yields to firmness. [33]

17.   Torture and bliss at the same time. How can they co-exist?[34]

18.   Mother needs a question to respond. [35]

19.   Why should the concentration behind the heart reveal the psychic and not the Purusha?

20.  When one deconditions himself of all that he has acquired since birth, what will be the state of his consciousness? Can he so decondition himself of his prebirth acquirement? If so, what will be the consciousness status?

21.  (The same as 20) It is not as if the human raises itself to the Supramental plane to  evolve further, but the human raises itself to the unmanifest Divine and monitors Supramental evolution in himself from the Supramental plane - comment?

Ram and Krishna are overmental divinities leading evolution in the human.

22.  Are Ram and Krishna unmanifest Divine leading the evolution of the humanity from the overmental plane?

Is the parallel compelling? Or is it necessary? Does it exist?

23.  Is not `hastening the evolution' out of place in the scheme of God and one which  expresses more of the human urge than the Divine's purpose?

Here, the answer is that involution and evolution are His intentions, each giving its own order of  delight, thus evolution being more delightful than the earlier involution. So, a quicker evolution gives greater delight, fulfilling the Divine Intention more fully.

As mental or vital work is more fully rewarding than the physi­cal, this evolution, even from the human point of view, is spiritual work at the level of the physical substance. Hence it is of far greater interest than any we know of, including 'Let Thy will be done.'

24.  'Soul in the mind' is better than `Soul in the body'. What are the ways or the points of expression in yogic results this assumption generates?

25.  If the way of works leads to love and knowledge, does it mean love, knowledge and works do meet somewhere? If so, which is that plane? Why?

26.  Brahman-Maya, Ishwara-Shakti, and Purusha-Prakriti are certainly experiences of a different order but still mostly in the range of spiritualised mind. Is it possible to more clearly define the relationship of each of these experiences with the different levels of the spiritual mind or outside it?

27.  'My life-long refuge, eternal refuge to curl up in the Lord has been taken away'.

       Is it better to call 'Mother' or keep quiet in Peace?

28.  Why do physicality and hostility go together?

29.  Purna yoga uses the powers of the soul in the mind. (S.Y. p. 586)

       What are the powers of the soul in the mind?

       Intelligence and such faculties are powers of the mind.

       Surrender is not a power of the mind or any part of the being.

       Surrender is a power of the soul.

       No part of the being can be controlled by itself, much less surrender.  

Statements of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo which require a rational explanation

 1.  Purna Yoga does not accept a human Guru.

 2.  Karma is wiped out by Mother's Consciousness.

 3.  Opportunities missed bring in catastrophes.

 4.  Don't complain against anyone, if you cannot change him.

 5.  Truth will not act in conditions of falsehood. (Unless Truth acts in conditions of falsehood how can falsehood be re­moved?)

 6.  Love purifies without transformation.

 7.  Ashram is a cradle of new civilisation.

 8.  Thought and will are together in Supermind.

 9.  If politics is to be avoided, how can the yogi influence politics?

10.  Perhaps the present civilisation is a revival of an earlier civilisation which lapsed.

11.  The cells know they are immortal. They do not know they can be transformed.

12.  The body cures itself.

13.   One in a thousand is a real disease.

14.   Separation of the mental act from the Person makes you see the ego.

15.   A leaf or a fruit or a cup of water is necessary as offer­ing.

16.   Siddhis come from the body consciousness.

17.   If one body does it, every body can do it.

18.   Twelve accomplished yogis are necessary.

19.   Mother never believed in publicity.

20.   Truth or the abyss.

21.   At the end of the ascent to truth, it is not Truth that awaits, but a plunge into the unknown.

22.   This yoga can be done only by the Divine.

23.   Purna Yoga can be accomplished by descent, not by ascent.

24.   You become that which you aspire for.

25.   Knowledge is to be sought inside, not outside.

26.   The world is not ready.

27.   The soul goes to Satchidananda in sleep.

28.   Intense aspiration is supramental vibration.

29.   This is not the time for the dissolution of the physical ego.

30.   Women can do yoga.

31.   Man has lost many of his senses.

32.   Auroville will prevent war.

33.   Achieve in three months thirty years of result.

34.   Wish fulfilment on seeing a meteor.

35.   As soon as your letter reaches the Ashram, Mother begins to act, your problems  are solved.

36.   Even if you pray after the event, Mother grants.

37.   Mother is able to rectify even past events.

38.   The more truthful you are, the more prosperous you are.

39.   Benevolent beings protect Her property.

40.   Gods are a limitation of Her work.

41.   She protects people forever, even if She had met them only for a second.

42.   Overmind can be bypassed and Supermind reached.

43.   Thought and will are fused together.

44.   Flowers are a better medium for Mother.

45.   Birthdays are special occasions.

46.   World Forces always fulfilled His will.

47.   Mother blesses thousands at one time.

48.   Cleanliness... is very important. Why?

49.   The broken machine at the Press worked.

50.   Your past is revealed to you when you pass through the origin.

51.   Your knowing your past helps, not when another tells you.

52.   Work gives you greater progress.

53.   She was never in trance.

54.   Meditation is not necessary.

55.   Sri Aurobindo emerges out of a photo.

56.   Mother hears the calls of people.

57.   Ashramites have disease because they have to.

58.   Supramental cure is permanent.

59.    Money must move.

60.    Money must be won for the Divine.

61.    Karma, if not repeated, vanishes.

62.    Anyone can do anything.

63.    If one subject is well learnt, education is over.

64.    Concentrate on your body, you fall ill.

         Concentrate on your heart, you are sad.

         Concentrate on your mind, you go mad.

65.    You will be happy if you do not expect others to do what you want.

66.    Women are better links for the Supermind.

67.    Violence can be used only in self-defence.

68.    There is no difference between ordinary life and spiritual life.

69.    You must love your enemy.

70.    The Indian farmer is closer to the Divine.

71.    The British have spoiled India.

72.    India is the Guru of the world.

73.    A child can destroy Europe.

74.    Mother grants the highest aspiration.

75.    Mother gives more than we ask for.

76.    Mother gives unasked.

77.    She gives everyone in the field where they pray.

78.    She gives you work that you hate.

79.    She gives exactly your need.

80.    She creates new laws, rules.

81.    She makes misers generous to you.

82.    She cures you without medicine.

83.    She cures you through medicine.

84.    You reach the top of your profession.

85.    She protects you without your knowing or Her knowing.

86.    Faith cures 99%, grace 100%

87.    Silent will effectuates itself.

88.    Mother's consciousness is protective. How?

89.    At the end of work, one should feel joy.

90.    Maximum utilisation brings in further supply.

91.    Taking another man's point of view accomplishes more.

92.    Evil cannot be conquered by Good.

93.   There is a Good which is not the opposite of evil. [36]

95.   Cheerfulness is a better foundation than depression, for sadhana.

112.   Ego served till now. Now it is a bar.

131.   Mother and Sri Aurobindo came down from the mental to the vital plane and later to the physical plane. [38]

132.   The Mother of Ananda would not stay here because people around Mother do not feel Her and She could not manifest. [39]

133.   Goodwill and aspiration make Man lend himself to the pro­cess. [40]

134.  Union of the Supreme creative principle was felt by Mother in the body. [41] 

        A supramental entity had possessed Mother. A physically visible light, a kind of  a phosphorescence, not the golden light of the Supermind, was there.

135.  There are mental, vital and spiritual freedoms. With the advent of the  Supermind, there is a new freedom, a freedom of the body. [42]

This happens when kundalini rises, though difficulties may remain.

Freedom of the body made Mother understand the mechanism of transformation.

136.  Qualities needed to pass various tests:

         nature - endurance, plasticity, cheerfulness and fearless­ness.

         spiritual - aspiration, confidence, enthusiasm, generosity in self-giving.

         hostile - vigilance, sincerity and humility.

137.   Nature understood that Supermind does not reject her. [43]

          Nature has accepted the new force. [44]

138.   Joy and felicity are parts of bliss. [45]

139.   Diamond light melts hostile forces. [46]

140.  Man recognises that anger and such emotions are wrong but in his own mind recognises the  validity of material laws like health, food, and so on. Material laws have no validity in the new manifestation.[47]

141.   Concrete reality is false reality.[48]

(Money lent five years ago has no legal reality.  A greedy man's expectation of the entire project for himself has no practi­cal reality. Contractual obligations like higher pay for higher work has no political reality. Each is real in its own plane, not in a higher plane.)

142.  "Do you want surrender from me?" - Mother

143.   Do not think about any work you have to do till you take it up.

144.   No comparison in the eternal history to the shock of 1950. [49]

145.  The psychic being is the intermediary between body-consciousness and True consciousness. [50]
