A compromise is a bargain. | |
Two conflicting powers give and take. |
It is not reconciliation. | |

It leads to some sort of oneness. | |
It is true reconciliation. | |
Unification reconciles. | |
Let us seek the utmost possible reconciliation. | |

We have to reconcile them on strong foundations. | |
Unification will help us do that. |

There Mind is illuminated by a knowledge. | |

We can aim at it and perceive it so. |
Para No:4 | |
How do we understand the silent Self? | |
It is active, pure, self-existent, self-enjoying. | |
It was the justification of the ascetic. | |
Here too we must resort to harmony. | |
That is the only illuminative truth. | |
The conflicting opposition will not help. | |
The Brahman is silent. | |
It is active. |
They are not different, opposite, or conflicting. | |
It is not as if one affirms illusion. | |
Or the other denies the illusion.
They are one Brahman in two aspects. | |
They are positive and negative of the same Brahman. | |
Each is necessary to the other. |
Out of this silence the Word comes out. |
That Word creates the world. |
The power of creation is in Silence. | |
The Word expresses that hidden power. | |

Omnipotence is another aspect. | |
Omnipotence supports the cosmic systems. | |
There is eternal passivity. | |
Power comes out of passivity. | |
At the base is the being. |
It is immutable.

This power is used to maintain harmony. | |
It is also used for variation. | |
Page No:27 Para No:5 | |
Brahman can be found within by man. |
It is full of absolute calm and passivity. | |
That calm supports inexhaustible activity. | |
It is full of divine tolerance. | |
It is also full of bliss. | |
Finding Brahman inside makes Man perfect. | |
Many possess that calm inside. | |
They have seen great energy coming out of that calm. | |
That energy issues out of that Clam and silence. | |
The work in the universe is done by that energy. | |
Silence rejects activity is a general idea. | |
It is not true. | |
It is the error of Mind. | |
Mind is limited. | |
At one time Mind can see only one thing or a part. | |
Brahman has Silence and activity together. | |
Mind can see either the Silence or activity. | |
Mind cannot see both together. | |
It is not in the capacity of mind. | |
Mind is created to cut out a part and see it. |
Silence does not reject the world. |
Silence energises silently the work in the world. |
Or we can say Silence supports both. |
It helps the soul to be free. | |
It impartially supports work as well as calm. | |
Silence is capable of supporting work while it is calm. | |
Para No:6 | |
There is the Non-Being, the absolute withdrawal. | |
As the withdrawal is complete, nothing will be left out. |
How are we to understand it? |
The Scripture says Being is born out of Non-Being. |
So, it must go back to Non-Being. |
We believe Existence permits all activities. | |
It permits possibilities, realisations, etc. | |
So, Non-Existence, Non-Being must reject all. |
Then Nihil of Buddhism will be right. |
We say ego is created by the mind. | |
Then self too is ego’s creation. | |
Maybe it was created out of mind’s idea. | |
Its creator is illusory consciousness. | |
Para No:7 | |
This is to be misled by words. | |
Our mentality is fond of distinctions. | |
It accepts opposites. | |
Mind takes one extreme as a whole. | |
Mind does it to our supramental experiences, too. |
Mind does not tolerate distinctions. | |
Non-Being is only a word. | |
Let us examine it closely. | |
The infinite Self is explained as an idea. | |
Non-existence, too, is a similar idea. | |
So, both are ideas of Mind. | |
What does this analysis mean? | |
We are in the universe, as part of it. |
While here, we have subtle experiences of being. |
We can make it more and more abstract. | |
Our conceptions can understand them. |
Thus we can push upto a point. | |
There is something beyond that last point. | |
We call that Nothing, Non-Existence, Non-Being. |
The Being is a positive idea. | |
The Non-Being is beyond that. |
We need to overpass what we know. |
We must also cross what we are. |
To overpass that we create this Nothing. | |
Let us see from other sides. | |
What is this Nihil of philosophers. | |
It is a Zero. | |
But it is All. |
It is a Zero that is All. |
It is an indefinable Infinite. | |
Mind sees that as a blank. | |
Mind only understands clearly constructed ideas. | |
Mind cannot grasp this because there is no construction. | |
Because Mind cannot see, we cannot say it is a zero. | |
Really, it is true Existence. | |
Page No:28 Para No:8 | |
We say Being is born out of Non-Being. |
What does it mean? | |
We are in the plane of Time. |
Being and Non-Being are outside Time. |
Man in Time talking about Being outside Time is meaningless. | |
Can we think of a fixed time for the birth of Being? |
Or a time for its disappearance? | |
We cannot. | |
Sat and Asat are Being and Non-Being. |
They must co-exist is the truth. | |
They do not mingle, but permit each other. |
Can we tell Being, it does not exist? | |
We want a solution to explain all things. | |
This is a negation of all experience. | |
Para No:9 | |
What is Pure Being? |
The Unknowable affirms Itself as Being. |
It is the basis of cosmic existence. | |
That is not All. |
There is another affirmation opposite to it. |
It is freedom from cosmic existence. | |
Consciousness formulates positively. | |
Even abstract ideas it formulates. | |
Even ideas beyond, it formulates. | |
Beyond these formulations is freedom from formulations. | |
That we call Non-Being. |
Non-Being does not deny expression of Itself. | |
It denies the limitation from expression. | |
The Non-Being permits Being as Silence permits activity. | |
This is not to destroy the opposite. | |
Here the opposites become complementary. | |
Here one is aware of Self-being and Unknowable. | |
The awareness is simultaneous. | |
The awakened Man can be aware of both. |
Thus Buddha attained Nirvana. | |
Still, in his Nirvana, he was powerful. | |
His inner consciousness was impersonal. | |
He is the most powerful personality the world knows. | |
He produced powerful results on earth. | |
His power came from the inner Silence. | |
Page No:29 Para No:10 | |
The words we use are misleading. | |
Each word asserts its own meaning. | |
This is self-assertion. | |
It becomes violent. | |
Each word is distinct. | |
It is a misleading distinction. | |
Our minds are narrow. |
Mind concentrates on one aspect of the Unknowable. | |
It denies the other aspects. | |
It decries them. |
We extend this limitation to the Brahman. | |
We understand our mistake. | |
We know something of the Absolute. | |
We make it rigid. |
We understand the Absolute as we understand other things. | |
Our opinions are egoistic. | |
Our experiences are partial. | |
We assert ours against others. | |
We see we are different from others. | |
We affirm the One as we assert ourselves. | |
It is wiser to wait, to learn, to grow. | |
We seek self-perfection. | |
We must speak of it. |
No human speech can express it. |
We look for the widest experience. | |
We need the most flexible understanding. | |
We need the most catholic affirmation. |
We want the largest harmony. | |
It would be the most comprehensive one. | |
Para No:11 | |
There is a high state. |
Relative existence dissolves there. |
Even Self is not sufficient there. |
We can enter into that state. |
We recognise we can. |
We know the Silence. | |
There is another Silence beyond it. |
It is possible to reach there. |
Still this is not the ultimate. | |
It is not the single all-excluding truth. | |
This is Nirvana. | |
This is self-extinction. | |
It gives absolute peace to the soul. | |
Freedom too is there. |
